Dr Colette Boskovic

Job Title: Lecturer

Company: University of Melbourne

City of Residence: Melbourne

Year Graduated: PhD, 1998

During semester a typical day might involve giving a lecture in the morning followed by either giving a tutorial or senior demonstrating a laboratory class in the afternoon. I also spend some lunch times in the Chemistry Learning Centre, answering questions from undergraduate students who drop by. In between these teaching commitments there's time to prepare lecture and tutorial materials, to talk to the members of my research group and to attend seminars and meetings.

I have recently spent a considerable amount of time writing grant applications for several University-based and national grant schemes. Fortunately I have been successful in obtaining these and now have the funds to establish a substantial research program. Thus at the moment I am organising for a graduate from overseas to come and join my research group as a post-doc. In addition I am in the process of purchasing a variety of new laboratory equipment.

Another activity that occupies my time is writing manuscripts that describe the results of my research for submission to peer-reviewed international journals. Unfortunately, I have little time to spend in the lab these days and have to increasingly rely on the efforts of members of my research group.

Finally I am presently Treasurer of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Victorian Inorganic Chemistry Group and Secretary of the Melbourne University Chemical Society. These positions require that I attend regular committee meetings and participate in the organisation of activities such as seminars and symposia.
