Tim talks about being a Buyer.

As a Senior Buyer in the Dulux National Purchasing Department, my primary responsibility is for sourcing, negotiation and implementing national contracts for the supply of primary packaging (Ie. cans, labels etc.) to our various production plants. I also manage the supply of various unique raw materials and the supply of bulk and drum solvents. Again, my responsibility is to source, negotiate and implement these contracts. Other aspects of my role include participating in various project teams for new product development as well alternative packaging/raw materials options.

My role is quiet diverse as I have interaction with all parts of the business involved in the supply chain; R&D, Production, Marketing, as well as the suppliers. It will depend on whether I am analyzing data to determine if there are cost reduction opportunities, or having review meetings to determine the future scope for various packaging initiatives, what my day will entail.

Although I am not currently employed in a Chemistry role, without that background I would not have been approached by Orica. Furthermore, it was whilst employed in a technical role with Orica that I demonstrated my skill base suitable to the more commercial role to which I aspired.
